I Love Festivals
I've decided that being crazy is so much more fun than being sane, so I'm just going to forget my sanity from now on and be crazy. My sisters and youngest cousin are crazy on a regular basis and it hasn't hurt them any.
Festival time was upon us this weekend. We took full advantage of the biggest social event of the year and attended daily. Thursday the girls were a little crazier than usual and began calling each other (and everyone else in their sight) by the name of Jackie. I was feeling a little silly myself so I joined in the nonsense. Every day that we went to the festival we called each other Jackie and when we ran into people we knew, we'd say,"Hi, Jackie!" and watch them look confused. I saw my friend Scott every night and called him Jackie. Last night was the last night so the girls were finding ways to spend the $20 that I gave each of them. They all got their faces painted for $1 each. Hannah got a unicorn on her cheek, Hayley got a tropical sunset with palm trees, and sensible Emma got her name painted on her face. Upon seeing all of the various paintings, Scott said,"Why didn't you get your name painted on your face, Jackie?" I thought that was a splendid idea, so I took the girls back over to the booth and requested a painting of my name.
"What's your name?" the lady asked.
"Jackie," I replied with a straight face. The whole time I was getting painted I was desperately trying to supress my laughter as the girls practically rolled on the ground. When I was done I went and showed my friends. Lilly told me I was crazy. Those are the first words she has spoken to me since March. I think we're friends again. Maybe. Kind of.
I had all kinds of fun with being someone else for the night. I saw my boss and he said,"Hey...that's not your name." I told him that I was Michelle's twin.
Then, I saw Blake (this guy that asked me out a couple times a few montsh ago) and he read my face and said,"Jackie?"
I said,"Hi. Who are you?"
"Blake..."
"Hi, Blake. I'm Jackie." He didn't fall for it, but it was still funny. He probably thinks I'm crazy now.
I went on the swings a few times with the girls. It was the only decent ride at the festival this year. None of us were very interested in the kiddie flying kayaks. Not really.
Anyway, every time we went up to the ticket booth, the man behind the window would question me. The first time he said,"Who's Jackie?"
"I don't know. Not me."
The second time:"So what does Jackie look like?"
"I don't know. My name's Michelle."
The third time:"I know a secret," he said. "Your name isn't really Michelle. Your name is Jackie."
"No, my name's Michelle, I swear......What's my name, girls?"
"Jackie," they said in unison.
"Mmhmm," said the ticket man.
Maybe next year I'll be Gloria.
