A musical life
I just finished watching "West Side Story" last night and as I watched and laughed and cried, I recalled a dream I once had, well, not so much a dream, but a fantasy. Wouldn't it just be the coolest to be in a musical? I'm not talking about like on stage (though that's probably as close as I'll ever get), but in real life. I could be walking down the street some day on my lunch hour and suddenly feel like singing and dancing, so I start to sing and dance. I break into this elaborate song and dance number as I'm walking down Main Street peering into store windows or browing through racks of clothing. As I'm singing and dancing everyone around me is carrying on in a mostly normal way. Their actions are only slightly exaggerated as they also look through the racks and carry on with their daily tasks in town. As I finish the verse and begin the chorus, everyone around me joins in the song. It's truly amazing that they all know the words and dance steps, seeing as I made this song up in my head as I was singing it. I must be very predictable if they can easily guess the next words and dance steps.
The people in the shop begin to sing and twirl about as two big strong guys dressed as business men lift me high into the air as I am winding down on the last chorus and set me atop a high shelf as I hold out the last note and extend my arms. As soon as the song is done, the two handsome young businessmen lift me back down off the shelf and everyone goes on with their business as if they didn't just participate in a "My Fair Lady" sequence.
