World Pulse Festival 2005

Yesterday was The Best Day Ever!! (Ever...that's a weird word, isn't it? It just looks weird...yeah, I'm tired) We got up at 5 am and left the house before 6. We stopped at McDonald's in Argos and ordered breakfast, which we ate in the car. We arrived at our destination shortly before 7. Our parking ticket stated that we were #1. Wooo! We're number 1....we're number 1....
When we got up to the gates Mike The Bearded Dude was already there with his group with their chairs set up at the front of the gate waiting to be let in. We stood there for an hour until the gates finally opened. God decided to send some rain down on us for about fifteen minutes, so it's a good thing we came armed with umbrellas. It would have felt good if He had waited a few hours to send His showers of blessing.
When the gates finally opened everyone started out walking and began to slowly increase their speed until they were running at a full-blown sprint. Imagine two hundred people running as fast as their legs can carry them, loaded down with blankets, bags and lawn chairs. It was comical. Bethany and I walked and laughed.
We were able to obtain a pretty decent spot. There were only about two rows of people in front of us. Hannah immediately took off and sat with Victoria the whole time. They stood right in front hugging the fence.
It took forever for the concert to start, it seemed. Three hours is a long time. Superchic[k] was the first band to perform. Hannah got Matt to autograph her poster before it started. They were all so energetic. The bass player was such a spaz. He was running across the stage and jumping around. It was really cool when the whole band would jump at the same time. They did "Barlow Girls" and everybody sang along. I love that song. It's so much cooler live in person.
Phil Keagy was next. No one was really excited to see him. I think we were all thinking the same thing. Some old guy...He totally changed my mind. He ROCKED! He is known as the world's best guitar player in the Christian music sphere. I now see why. He played "John the Revelator" and it was like 10 minutes long. He was wailing. He did this thing where he fretted the chords and tapped the fretboard instead of picking it. It was so awesome.
Nicole C. Mullen was the next performer. She was really good. I knew a lot more of her songs than I thought I did. Her dancers were really cool. She had some sweet moves, too.
I was finally able to see my favorite band in concert-Jars of Clay. They were missing the drummer, but sounded good, anyway. They were all acoustic. I was singing along and cheering until I thought I would lose my voice altogether.
Everyone was really excited about the fifth artist. The crowd was getting impatient and startd chanting as the band was getting set up. "Tobymac, Tobymac..." He came out and the whole crowd was on their feet screaming and applauding. He did an AWESOME show. Really awesome. He was definitely my favorite this year. After he left the stage everyone started shouting for an encore. All you could hear was "TOBY, TOBY, TOBY, TOBY, TOBY...." That was the coolest part of the whole day. It echoed and you could feel it inside you. THE WHOLE CROWD was chanting. Can you imagine what it must feel like to have 50,000 people chanting your name? How exhilarating would that be? He came back out and did "Whoopsie-Daisy" followed by a bunch of old-school songs that everybody knew. It was great.
We left before MercyMe came out. Hayley got sick mid-Nicole C. Mullen and Dad had to take her to the van to sit in the air conditioning. I was worried about her and everyone else was pretty much done in by the heat, too. Rain would have been welcome. It was so hot and sticky. People kept squirting their water bottles around and that felt good. I was about to beat the idiot that did it with his Pepsi, though.
All in all it was a great day, except for when Hayley got sick and missed out on Tobymac...oh and when I almost initiated a fist fight with the girl that was standing next to me...She kept flinging her arms in face and elbowing me in the ribs, stepping on me and Emma. I was so close...so very close to knocking her on her face, but I restrained myself and just "accidentally" tripped a few times and rammed into her. Oops. It was really uncomfortable the last few hours due to the people cramming in (that's the only bad thing about being up front...well, that and if you need to get out it's nearly impossible because there are no freaking aisles except for the one that everyone was crammed into when the concert started) and standing so close in front of you that you can't stand up straight because if you do you're gonna be eating the back of their head and standing so close beside you that you feel like a giant bruise from all their elbowing and smacking in the face....but I had fun and I'm totally going next year. I think I'll be more frequent with the sunscreen applications, however...
